GABRIEL KOVACH
Gabriel Kovach, horn, is presently principal horn with both the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Opera Company of Philadelphia, as well as a prominent free-lancer in the New York and Philadelphia areas. He has served as acting principal horn with the Ottawa National Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Pinchas Zuckerman.
Gabe received his undergraduate degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, studying with Myron Bloom and Barry Tuckwell; and his Master’s degree from the Juilliard School, studying with Julie Landsman and Jerome Ashby.
Gabe has spent recent summers as a participant in the Marlboro Music Festival and before that has summered with the Curtis Orchestra (on tour in Verbier, Switzerland), the Casals Festival, the Norfolk Music Festival (Yale School of Music), and the National Repertory Orchestra.
Formerly, he was also principal horn of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra (appointed substitute), the New York Philharmonic and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Some of the conductors Gabe has performed with include: James Levine, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Sir Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur, David Zinman and Yuri Temirkanov.
Gabe can be heard on recordings as soloist with the Polish National Radio Symphony, and as a member of the United Brass Ensemble.
